Reasons to Attend Graduate School

Attending graduate school will add at least two and sometimes more than eight years to your academic studies, so the very first question you should ask yourself is: Why do I want/need to go to graduate school?

There are many different reasons why people choose to attend graduate or professional school.  Here are a few:

  • You need to gain specialized training required to advance in your particular field. Careers such as medicine, dentistry, psychology, and law require education beyond the bachelor’s degree.
  • You wish to enter a profession such as a college professor, researcher, or analyst which requires an advanced degree.
  • You wish to advance your career after many years in the workforce.
  • You are transitioning to a new career as your skills and interests evolve.
  • You are intellectually curious and have a desire to continue learning in a formal setting after completing your undergraduate education.
